A family of five was in a fatal car crash that took the lives of three young children and left their dad paralyzed for the rest of his life. After the accident, the dad, Somchai Lurak, woke up in the hospital to the sad news of his daughters' death. Lurak's fiancée was also badly injured in the accident. The crash took place in the early hours of the morning near Hot Spring Landing. It is suspected that the other driver was under the influence, which not only led to a crash but also claimed the lives of three innocent children.
The children, 6-year-old Aneena Lurak, 5-year-old Kya Lurak, and Drayka Rayshell, 3 were all strapped in the backseat of the car. Aneena and Kya were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The youngest was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to the blunt force trauma, reported the Daily Mail . Sometime between Lurak's fleeting periods of consciousness after his sedation began to wear off, his brother, Anthony Smock, informed him about the death of his daughters. Smock also shared the heartbreaking news on his Facebook as well as shared pictures of his nieces and his injured brother in the hospital.
"My brother is awake he has been told about everything," he wrote. "He is devastated but is trying to keep his spirits up. The tube is out. He does have feeling in his legs but can’t move his feet. The neurosurgeon says it looks promising that he will be able to use his legs again." The funeral for the three little girls was held a few days after the accident. "My three beautiful baby nieces. I will always love [you]. I will always miss forever the wonderful people I will never get to see you become," Smock wrote in another post . The girls' stepmother and Lurack's fiance Emma Weigand, 25, was taken to the hospital to be treated for broken ribs and arm.
"Just when I think I might be getting over the worst, tears just start pouring out of my eyes," Smock told Mirror UK . "I start thinking about my nieces' beautiful smiles and sweet little giggles, and how every time I would sweep them up into my arms and give them hugs and kisses. I want them back and I want my brother to be able to have his babies. It's a miracle we still have Somchai and his recovery has been improving." He added, "Our family has three pieces of our hearts missing forever now. To everyone everywhere, I'm begging you. Never ever drink and drive - it's selfish and stupid and can destroy people's lives and families forever."
Lurak's older sister Amanda Lurak-Moldenhauer has set-up a GoFundMe to help her brother out during this difficult time by helping out with the funeral costs and medical expenses. According to the Blaine County Sheriff's Office Matthew Park, 42, was responsible for driving drunk and crashing into the Lurak family car at a high speed. He was charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of aggravated DUI, reported KTVB . He pleaded not guilty for all of the charges but later admitted to drinking heavily prior to the crash.
